The Karanis scanning project was conducted during the beginning of the 2010 UCLA/RUG/AU team fieldwork in Egypt as part of an effort toward better documenting the spatial organization of the site of Karanis, modern-day Kom Aushim. The above video shows results from just 5 scans taken of the site. During the two weeks of scanning using the method established for this project, we acquired over one billion individual points, 72 ScanStations, and 274 scans. This incredibly rich dataset provides spatial documentation on over 180,000 square meters of the site.
